About
My name is Richard Proia. I have over forty years of driving experience. I have driven for ridesharing companies like Uber and Lyft and currently do delivery services for DoorDash and Postmates on a part time basis. I enjoy driving and look forward to helping others learn the skills necessary to be a good driver.
The work I do is driving. Combining that with my passion for teaching makes it doubly enriching. Let's learn and drive together!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When working with a new student. I typically ask them what he or she looks to gain from my lessons. I want to know what it is that they need to learn so I can get them where they want to be.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have had extensive training in driving. When I first became a driver, I enrolled in the Morgan School of Driving. I learned all of the necessary skills I needed to be a good driver. I continue to remain knowledgeable in driving by regularly taking defensive driving courses offered by New York State.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $30 for the first fourty minutes and $40 for a full hour. The standard industry rate ranges between $50 and $100 per lesson based upon the region and the length of the lesson.
How did you get started teaching?
I have teaching experience as a professor at Finger Lakes Community College. Teaching comes naturally to me and I really enjoy it. Combining it with my passion to drive makes this experience double exciting!
What types of students have you worked with?
Thus far, my students have been college students. Most of them I find eager to learn. I always look at teaching as a personal learning experience for myself. I never want to stop leaning and I hope you feel the same way too!
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I love family! I come from a large family. I have three sisters and four brothers with so many nieces and nephews; I need both hands and both feet to count them all. We gather every October for a clam bake, usually at Hamlin Beach. It was decided that last year we would gather at Powder Mills Park. There was more food than you could imagine. Family members came from out of town. It's such a wonderful way of keeping the family together. Can you tell that I love family?
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
It's important that the driving teacher have experience in driving. Listen, there is just so much that a teacher can teach out of a book but the truly valuable lessons will come from what the teacher, any teacher, can pass on from his experience in his or her area of expertise.
