About

I have been a competitive rugby player my entire life and have been a strength and conditioning and fitness coach for over 10 years. I got into coaching after I tore my ACL playing rugby when I was 18. This injury was a blessing in disguise, as it inspired me to get into strength and conditioning to help prepare athletes to succeed and reduce their chances of injury. I currently play for The Columbus Rugby Club, where I’m also the S & C coach.

I completed internships at EXOS and Velocity Sports Performance and have worked at several elite sports performance training facilities. There, I had the chance to work and learn from some of the best coaches in the world and helped coach NFL, MLB, NHL, professional rugby, collegiate rugby squads, youth athlete development, high school volleyballs squads, NFL combine prospects and a wide variety of general population clients of all ages. While working on my Masters degree at the University of Edinburgh, I was a graduate strength and conditioning intern, where i supported the Olympic rowing and swimming developmental teams.

As a strength and conditioning coach, my specialty is improving athletic performance in the most effective way possible. Regardless of your levels and goals, you will train like an athlete while working within your limitations.

I love teaching and helping people move and feell better.

I get to weat shorts and a t-shirt everyday.

I get to do what I'm trully passionate about.

I get to help young athletes develop.

I get to work with professional athletes.

I get to work in a gym.

Coach Jacko is a one of a kind performance coach - he thoroughly understands how the body works, devotes his time and energy to ensuring his clients use effective, safe training techniques and he genuinely cares about the well-being of those around him. I’ve trained with Coach Jacko for two years and I have never felt or looked better. I came to him with a variety of orthopedic issues, including two degenerative discs in my lumbar spine, and he has kept me pain-free and working out hard. He never hesitates to swap out a programmed exercise with a movement that he thinks will be kinder to my back, yet still achieve the same goal.
A large part of my success is due to Coach Jacko’s knowledge of and appreciation for stretching, mobility and soft-tissue work, which he views as a vital step in helping to keep his clients injury-free and maximize their performance in the gym. He knows how to tailor his workouts to each client and he challenges everyone at the gym to work hard and have fun. I highly recommend that you entrust your health and fitness to Coach Jacko - you will not be disappointed.

Johnny’s professionalism and breadth of knowledge stand out the most to me as my coach/trainer. A lot of gym personalities don’t know the science behind their workouts. In contrast, Johnny’s degrees, certifications and tenure in the field leave me with the upmost confidence in my preparation for an upcoming season. #GPH

I have been training with Johnny for almost a year now and have achieved significant improvement in my physical well-being.
Johnny does an excellent job creating fitness plans that are tailored to your needs and he actively monitors said plans to ensure they meet your expectations. His plans are dynamic and well-thought out and they do a great job focusing on proper form and progression.
Personally, I have found that sticking to Johnnys plan(s) over the last year has helped transform my body especially with regards to core strength and lifting form improvement.
I would recommend Johnny to all individuals of any experience level whore looking to optimize their training regiment and transform their bodies.

Started about 13 years ago. Started working with people I knew until I was comfortable enough to be able to charge to coach other people. I've kept learning from other coaches and educating my self by pursuing degrees and certifications as well as applied experience.

I've had the pleasure to work with several populations. This includes athletes from the ages of 12 up to professional athletes. I've worked with all ages.

Beware. This is not a licensed field and there are literally NO regulations. There are a lot of snake oil sales people. Do your research. Look for education and experience. Experience is very important, but having experience doing something wrong for 20 years is not really good experience.

    What is your philosophy?

Do you program or do you just do whatever on the day. Prove it.
