Action Self Defense has been in business for over 20 years and has a 5 star Google
rating. We offer a number of different programs, all providing our participants with real world self-defense techniques that anyone can learn, no matter your gender, size, shape or age! Our classes are informative, empowering, and fun! Whether you’re looking for a one time basic
self-defense class, or ongoing programs, we have a plan to fit your needs. Our classes include:

Classes are designed to teach awareness and prevention plus real world self-defense that is efficient and effective. Owner/instructor & 9th Degree Black Belt Diane Reeve Kirby makes every class a memorable event. She was inducted into the US Martial Arts Hall of Fame and was the winner of the BBC Inspirations Award in 2020. Instructor & 9th Degree Black Belt Tim Kirby holds multiple state and national karate championships and is also in the US Martial Arts Hall of Fame. Together they make Action Self Defense your go-to place for world class prevention and defensive training.

30 years teaching experience, 8thdegree black belt in TaekwonDo, black belts in 3 other styles, Masters Degree in Education.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Tuition for karate classes and self defense classes are standard and are available on request.
How did you get started teaching?
It has always been my passion to help others. I befan my career as a Regiatered Nurse but after getting into karate found that teaching martial arts was the perfect fit for me. I quit my nursing job, opened VMAC in 1995 and I have never looked back. I have oromoted over 200 people to black belt.
What types of students have you worked with?
People from all walks of life, all ages and experience levels.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look foe someone with experience, credentials, compassion, and excellent teaching skills.
