How did you get started teaching?
Moving and teaching has been innate since I was young, I started at a professional dance academy when I was 8 years old became a professional later in life, I taught ballet in my basement starting at the age of 15 to neighborhood children.
Teaching Pilates and functional exercise was a natural transition from my career. Through my years of dancing, strength training and somatic methods were a part of my performance and preventative regimes for longevity.
Simply put - it's in my blood to instruct and educate others on how to move/exercise optimally, to be healthy and fit and to look good!
What types of students have you worked with?
All types of students and ages from teenagers with scoliosis, to professional athletes and mom and dads wanting to stay in shape, my oldest client was 92!
In recent years I have been working with the more mature adult or individual who wants to stay fit for the long haul and is not as interested in "fad fitness" but wants to learn how to be in shape and stay as healthy and fit as they can.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I've been working with niche fitness centers to incorporate organic, non-GMO food programs for detox and weight loss that is life style focused to their facilities incorporating exercise programing with it.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look at providers' education and experience and see if it relates and, you should feel comfortable with the person and meet with them before signing on to anything. It is suggested to start with a few sessions initially and then evaluate if the trainer is a match, don't feel obligated. Be clear on your objectives and explain them. Ask a lot of questions.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
They should consider their SMART goals:
S-Specific. What is that they want? If they are not clear they can ask the trainer to talk through it with them to get clarity.
M-Measurable-How is the goal measured? How will you know if you are successful? Is it just getting to a session and working out twice a week, is that success for you? Define your success.
A-Attainable-Is your goal attainable in a specific time frame. If getting to 3 training sessions a week is your goal, can you carve out the time for that? Do you have a flexibility goal? If yant to lose weight, how much in what time frame? What are you willing to do, time, money and habit wise?
R-Relevant-is the goal worth achieving? Is it Realistic? Can you lose 30 pounds in two weeks? Can you work out 4 times a week with your schedule? Can you touch your toes in month?
T-Time-Is the goal focused around a measure of time and space?
