Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We start this process by meeting for a free consultation in order to determine if I am the right fit for the new customer. During this consultation we will work with a new customer to identify their health and fitness goals and how we can work to achieve those goals. In order to create a safe and effective roadmap towards the customers identified goals, we will complete Health History and Exercise History Forms.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a B.S. from Southern CT State University and an ACE Personal Trainer Certification. In addition I am continually pursuing continuing education in the health and fitness field. I am currently working on an ACE Senior Fitness Certification.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Here at Pursue Fitness LLC we believe in simplicity and affordability. We provide In-Home personal training starting at $50 per 1 hour session.
How did you get started teaching?
As a child and teenager I was always active and played a variety of sports. Upon graduating from High School I enlisted in the US Army Infantry where I proudly served for 3 years. After completing my regular Army enlistment, I signed up for the CT National Guard where I served another 2 years. During my time in the National Guard, I worked full-time and attended Southern Ct State University Full-time. During this period I was constantly on the go and being a young man in my 20's, I didn't pay particular attention to my diet. Additionally during this period I got married and had twin boys. As with most people, family and work obligations took up a significant amount of my time and exercise just wasn't a priority. Slowly but surely the weight snuck up on me and I found myself heavier than ever and out of shape like never before. After not exercising for several years, I decided to start training again and attempted to run the standard 2 mile Army run I had done so many time before. However, after several years of inactivity I wasn't even able to run a mile. This was the moment I decided to get myself back in shape and began the process of reclaiming my health. After getting back in shape and falling in love with working out like never before, I found myself helping family, friends, and co-workers with diet and exercise advise. After helping two co-workers lose a combined 80 pounds I felt as if I'd found my calling and decided to get my Personal Training Certification
What types of students have you worked with?
I've had the privilege of working with a large variety of clients. I've worked with people from ages 19 to 65. I've also worked with people with a variety of goals from losing weight to firming and toning to getting back into sports shape.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently worked with a 54 year old woman who was looking to lose weight. She was unsure of herself when it came to exercise but was willing to step out of her comfort zone because she realized that exercise was necessary if she wanted to maintain her mobility and independence as she aged. We started training slowly using basic beginner exercises that would increase strength and improve flexibility and systematically added exercises that were more difficult but appropriate for her fitness level. This process helped increase not only her strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular health but also helped boost her confidence. When we began training we met twice a week then stepped down to once per week. After a year and a half she lost over 50 pounds and felt comfortable enough to join a gym and begin working out by herself in front of other people.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I think one of the most important things particularly for beginners is to find someone you feel comfortable with. You should feel comfortable with their personality and their skill set.
