Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When I bring in a new client they first fillout the required paperwork to work with me. This includes an assessment. This in addition to talking to the participant allows me to get to know them from the past to the present. From there I identify things that will need improvement to reach their goals and we go step by step from there.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Group sessions are $180/ month subscription and one on one sessions range from $75-100 depending on how often you will train. I also offer an add on fee where you can invite a friend or family member to a session for $30.
How did you get started teaching?
I had a major lower back injury during my football career which caused me to lose two years of athletics. During that time I gained seventy pounds because all I could do was physical therapy and some walking. The two years after I was cleared to start working out again I lost the seventy pounds to my pre-injury weight. From there I spent two more years gaining thirty pound of muscle and pursuing a degree in Kinesiology. I took a job at LA Fitness and the rest is history.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have trained clients ranging from 10-80 years of age. I have two primary groups of clients though I have trained athletes, ceo's, small business owners, teachers, and everything in between.
Group 1 is 25-45 years old high achievers (people who are generally motivated looking to excell in their career or in life in general)
Group 2 is 60+ years of age who want to make sure they are safe while exercising and want to live as healthy as they can for as long as they can.
I'm willing to work with anyone who has a good attitude and a willingness to learn!
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
When Covid-19 hit my business pivoted big time. I went from training out of three gyms and going to three clients houses to training exclusively in my neighborhood and virtually on Zoom and Facetime.
I also started a small business mastermind group designed to bring business owners together to talk about our struggles and successes during the Covid time period so that we could lean on and learn from each other.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
This is from a blog I wrote recently.
Not All Personal Trainers or Professionals are Created Equally
A few thoughts on when hiring a personal trainer if it is on your 2020 to do list.
1. Cost should not be your number one thought, while it is important to remember to stay on budget many times what you pay is what you get. Better trainers with more experience generally charge more. Expect to pay $50-$100/hour
2. Education and certifications should be checked. Dont assume your trainer who markets themselves as a trainer is a professional. Ask them about their education and certifications and make sure those responses align with your goals. (NSCA, ACSM, Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology are great)
3. Experience. Sure there are good young trainers, but there is something to be said about someone with 6 or more years of experience. This is especially important if you have health issues or injuries. If you choose to work with a younger trainer ideally they will be currently mentored by an experienced trainer or company. (Personally I would look for 5 or more years experience, but if you are working with someone inexperienced make sure they are learning from someone remarkable and experienced)
4. Liability insurance. Make sure they have a policy to protect you if something unexpected happens.
5. Personality. Do you like to be screamed at, talked down to, or belittled? Some trainers do this. Some people like this. Others don't. Make sure your trainer matches what you are trying to achieve. (Reviews for a trainer are a great way to see what others think of your trainer)
6. Looks. Don't assume a trainer who is shredded knows how to train you, some people are genetically gifted. With social media anyone who is in shape can pretend to be a trainer. (Think of a trainer as a coach. Most professional bodybuilders have a coach, they aren't the coach themselves)
7. Training specialty- If you want to improve your golf game find a trainer who specializes in that, if you want training and you are older look for a trainer who works with older clients. This also goes for losing weight or building muscle. Experienced trainers have probably worked with everyone, but someone just starting out may not have.
8. Final thought. Not everyone is meant to be a Formal Fitness Training client and we always refer people to the best trainer for them if that is the case, but I'm always here to help you with your fitness and life goals! My promise is I will always educate, grow, and improve myself so that I can help educate, grow, and improve your life.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Is this a short term goal or a long term goal?
Am I willing to do whatever it takes to reach my goals?
Do I have the time and resources to devot to this?
What exactly do I want?
