    When I started with Wharton Method Martial Arts & Fitness, I was looking for someone who could be flexible with my work schedule, be able to guide me whether virtually or in-person, hold me accountable to what I eat, and give me guidance on how to improve my diet. His knowledge of how to adapt and adjust workouts to fit your needs and improve your technique and abilities blows me away. I have been amazed by the progress I have made in little over a month with hour sessions only 2-3 times a week.
    To change things up, I have brought my teenage daughters to work with us on martial arts and defense techniques. Something every girl should know! They have had so much fun working with Him. He is patient, funny, and has a way of explaining things that allows them (and me) to pick up different moves quickly and easily!

    Assessing goals first, is martial arts for defense, fitness or to fight competitively as all are accepted. Body metrics can also be acquired as well if wanted. Covering basic movements and general questions as to why they want to train martial arts and/or lose weight/get stronger. Then building up techniques and applying them to gain a self defense understanding of the movements.

    I have always been into martial arts. Starting out sparring with my brother and training with him until I officially started with the Wushu Institute in Des Moines IA. From there I branched out to other martial arts adding to my repertoire competing in full contact fights, traditional tournaments including hand forms, weapons, stick fighting, point sparring and continuous sparring.

    I have worked with kids as young as five and seniors at the age of 84. All levels and abilities are welcome.

    My most recent accolade is making Blue belt rank in Brazilian Ju-jitsu. Always keep learning

    Make sure that the instructor is legitimate either by his or her students or even watching them. They should be able to explain techniques AND show you how to apply them. Watch out for instructors that never train.

    What do you want to get out of learning martial arts. Be open to growing or changing that and or committing to the time to develop.
