Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Every client is different. In my experience I have seen clients with same type of injuries when they start training but different reactions and responses to given exercises. There is no perfect program, exercise regiment should be often planned the same day based on how the client feels at the moment. Trainer/ coach should have an idea and base of the program prepared but the rest is like cooking, you never know exactly how much salt and pepper you will add to the meal you are preparing.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have Masters degree in Kinesiology and sport scinece
certifications:
1. ISSA certified personal trainer
2. PTA Global certified personal trainer
3. Bioforce certified strength and conditioning specalist
4. ACE small group training
How did you get started teaching?
It started back in 2003 when I got my first client. He was 53 year old gentleman and former professional hockey player with major back issue. He was diagnosed with chronic kyphosis which is excessive outward curvature of the spine, causing hunching of the back. He was in constant pain that it would take him every morning at least 30 min to get out of his bed. We were able at first to do only few floor exercises but over the time with his continuous work and dedication not that he was pain free but he also started playing hockey for the veterans! Not to mention that his spine has almost gotten fully straight, he became a new man.
What types of students have you worked with?
Actors, Beginners, Brides-to-be, Cancer Survivors, Law Enforcement, LGBTQIA, Men, Middle-aged, Military, Models, Overweight/ Obese, Peri/Post-menopausal, Post-rehab, Pre/post-natal, Rehab, Runners, Seniors, Student-athletes, Women, Youth, proffessional athletes.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Always do a research on a coach/trainer before hiring. Look for their years of experience, education and knowledge and what success with clients they have previously. If you like the initial bio, meet with them either over the phone or in person and discuss your goals and past exercise history. If the coach is actively listening and able to give you a plan based on what your needs/goals are then go for it. You can have the best coach in the world, but if there is no match or connection, it's not going to be a good fit.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
If you are willing to make the commitment and work hard both on your diet and training. It is a complete life style change. If you have certain limitations you need to make sure that it won't interfiere with your goals/needs and alwasy consult your primary physican before commiting to a fitness training.
