FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I usually have the first session as a learning process to get to know the individual and what I can help them with regarding sport lessons or improving technique. I don't tear people down but have them learn at their own pace. I train people for longevity, for health, for performance and most of all for your benefit!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Heidi is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association and an Advanced Sports Performance Coach through USA Weightlifting.  She is also the only PRT specialist in Houston who is trained from the Postural Restoration Institute.  She holds both undergraduate and masters degrees with concentrations in Kinesiology, Biology, and Education.  Recognized as one of the premier strength coaches, her passion is to serve athletes, young and old, and help guide them to healthier and more dominant performing careers.  Heidi continues to establish her reputation as an outstanding leader in the health and fitness industry due to implementing science and technology in a way that makes training more efficient, with experienced program design, and research collecting data to take and deeper look into how to train for .

Heidi has a unique ability to relate to student athletes, professional athletes, personal clients, and other professionals due in part to her extensive professional background and her athletic resume.  Before college, Heidi trained and competed with USA Track & Field on the international circuit.  She then moved into competing as a 3-sport athlete at Cal State Fullerton.  After her college career, Heidi was drafted into the Women’s Professional Fast Pitch (WPF) and was a prominent player of the two time National Champion Orlando Wahoos.  In between playing WPF, Heidi served as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at the University of Florida and subsequently was hired as Director of Strength and Conditioning for Olympic Sports at the University of Kentucky.  With more than 15 years of coaching experience at the collegiate level, Heidi moved back into competing as a US Bobsled athlete.

Simply, Heidi is a servant and a storyteller.  She has a passion to inspire and improve the human condition. It is through a wide range of experience that she continues to serve others in their pursuit of athletic achievement as well as serve in capacities many individuals to improve their fitness. Throughout all her exhaustive responsibilities of coaching and competing, Heidi has remained consistent with her insatiable desire to learn and grow in the field of exercise science and postural health.

“I believe we should be persistent in having the best coaching and inspiring approach to training that is available and to bridge the gap between science and performance.”

Heidi now resides in Northwest Houston and continues to provide her clients with world renowned and inspirational training.  Heidi has contributed frequently to nationally-recognized publications and specializes in strength training, program design, corrective exercise, athletic performance and weight loss.

Despite being selected by the New York Mets in the June 1987 amateur draft, he opted to attend college and was a two-time letterman for both Florida State University and the University of Arizona.  After a successful amateur career that included two trips to the Connie Mack World Series (1987, 1988)  and two National Baseball Congress World Series Championships (1989, 1990), Barry signed with the Montreal Expos in June of 1991.  Over the course of a professional career that spanned eleven seasons, Barry pitched in seven Major League organizations (Expos, White Sox, Pirates, Rangers, Diamondbacks, Yankees, and Phillies).  Along the way, he led the White Sox organization in ERA three times (1993, 1995, 1996) and was a member of two league championship teams (GCL Expos-1991 & Birmingham Barons-1993).  After the completion of the 2001 campaign, Barry was selected to represent the United States in the 2001 Baseball World Cup held in Taiwan and compiled a 1-0 record for the silver medal-winning Team USA.

How did you get started teaching?

I have always been interested in education and coaching from high school and have been driven to pursue a PhD in Education as a result. I love those people who can tell you a story while you learn in the process.

What types of students have you worked with?

All types! Students who are 7yrs old to 74!

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Choose wisely! Don't assume they will be good because they seem like it on credentials alone. See if you love to listen to them or would like to be like them!
