The Metal Chapter was founded by coaches after serving more than a decade as a strength and conditioning coach in the SEC Conference, and in Major League Baseball. TMC breaks away from the norm of cookie cutter training, by providing groups or individuals with world-class, data-based workouts and coaching for athletes and non-athletes alike.

We ensure our clients have the best experience by having our service unlike any others - we incorporate Sports Vision and a full assessment to make getting started easy. Programs are individualized and so is our private lessons. we give data in our feedback so you will know how to improve and have fun!

    I usually have the first session as a learning process to get to know the individual and what I can help them with regarding sport lessons or improving technique. I don't tear people down but have them learn at their own pace. I train people for longevity, for health, for performance and most of all for your benefit!

    Heidi is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association and an Advanced Sports Performance Coach through USA Weightlifting.  She is also the only PRT specialist in Houston who is trained from the Postural Restoration Institute.  She holds both undergraduate and masters degrees with concentrations in Kinesiology, Biology, and Education.  Recognized as one of the premier strength coaches, her passion is to serve athletes, young and old, and help guide them to healthier and more dominant performing careers.  Heidi continues to establish her reputation as an outstanding leader in the health and fitness industry due to implementing science and technology in a way that makes training more efficient, with experienced program design, and research collecting data to take and deeper look into how to train for .

    Heidi has a unique ability to relate to student athletes, professional athletes, personal clients, and other professionals due in part to her extensive professional background and her athletic resume.  Before college, Heidi trained and competed with USA Track & Field on the international circuit.  She then moved into competing as a 3-sport athlete at Cal State Fullerton.  After her college career, Heidi was drafted into the Women’s Professional Fast Pitch (WPF) and was a prominent player of the two time National Champion Orlando Wahoos.  In between playing WPF, Heidi served as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at the University of Florida and subsequently was hired as Director of Strength and Conditioning for Olympic Sports at the University of Kentucky.  With more than 15 years of coaching experience at the collegiate level, Heidi moved back into competing as a US Bobsled athlete.

    Simply, Heidi is a servant and a storyteller.  She has a passion to inspire and improve the human condition. It is through a wide range of experience that she continues to serve others in their pursuit of athletic achievement as well as serve in capacities many individuals to improve their fitness. Throughout all her exhaustive responsibilities of coaching and competing, Heidi has remained consistent with her insatiable desire to learn and grow in the field of exercise science and postural health.

    Heidi now resides in Northwest Houston and continues to provide her clients with world renowned and inspirational training.  Heidi has contributed frequently to nationally-recognized publications and specializes in strength training, program design, corrective exercise, athletic performance and weight loss.

    Throughout a distinguished baseball career, Barry Johnson established a reputation for excellence on the pitching mound, attention to detail, and an unsurpassed work ethic.  Barry was an All-State pitcher at Joliet Catholic High School (Joliet, IL). Despite being selected by the New York Mets in the June 1987 amateur draft, he opted to attend college and was a two-time letterman for both Florida State University and the University of Arizona.  After a successful amateur career that included two trips to the Connie Mack World Series (1987, 1988)  and two National Baseball Congress World Series Championships (1989, 1990), Barry signed with the Montreal Expos in June of 1991.  Over the course of a professional career that spanned eleven seasons, Barry pitched in seven Major League organizations (Expos, White Sox, Pirates, Rangers, Diamondbacks, Yankees, and Phillies).  Along the way, he led the White Sox organization in ERA three times (1993, 1995, 1996) and was a member of two league championship teams (GCL Expos-1991 & Birmingham Barons-1993).  After the completion of the 2001 campaign, Barry was selected to represent the United States in the 2001 Baseball World Cup held in Taiwan and compiled a 1-0 record for the silver medal-winning Team USA.

    After a four-year stint in the front office of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Barry currently resides in Northwest Houston.  A University of Arizona graduate with a degree in Accounting, Barry has remained active in both the amateur and professional baseball circles as an Associate Scout for the Chicago Cubs, Major League Scout for Inside Edge, Inc., Co-Owner of The Metal Chapter – Performance & Strength, and as a highly sought after pitching coach and private instructor.  Barry is a Certified Biomechanics Coach through the National Pitching Association.

    Standard lessons-training are usually $70/hr. Group pricing is $150/hour for 3-4 athletes. 

    Personal Training is $65/hr

    I have always been interested in education and coaching from high school and have been driven to pursue a PhD in Education as a result. I love those people who can tell you a story while you learn in the process.
