About
While many fitness "trainers" focus on systems and movements that they expect the client to fit into, we are "client focused". We realize that every human is an individual and they all have different needs based on not only their goals, but on how much they already own the movement of their body.
Having coaches that understand functional biomechanics and how to make adjustments for each client not only with their programs, but on a day to day basis is how we help optimize each clients life, regardless of their optimized performance is life or sports focused.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Each potential client first meets for a strategy session with a coach. This is where we discuss history, health, goals, and potential game plan for moving in a positive direction. We don't have a "standard" assessment as we believe each individual requires attention to who they are and where they are with their bodies. Having a "standard" assessment only targets a specific type of person, or runs the risk of challenging the body in ways it's not ready for. We then discuss what program might work best for each client and go from there.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have almost 20 years of coaching/training experience and hold many certifications in different approaches to fitness, nutrition, advanced strength & conditioning, and athletic development. I am also a certified specialist in M.A.T. (Muscle Activation Technique), which is a hands-on process that focuses on the contractile ability of muscles and improving the neuromuscular system through range of motion assessments and muscular palpations. M.A.T. also requires a very advanced understanding of not only anatomy, but functional anatomy and the orchestration of how movements in the body are all connected.
I am also a former professional athlete and have worked in the sports performance sector for years with world class athletes. Now the focus is balanced between athletes and helping every day people live better lives.
When not coaching at Thrive Performance and Fitness, I spend time with my wife and two amazing children, or coaching the wrestling team at Arundel High School.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
While I don't charge per session, I work with each client to discuss a personalized program that is best suited to fit their needs. The client is first and foremost, so I don't fit everyone into the same program and I approach each and every person from where they are at and progress from there.
How did you get started teaching?
I was an athlete my entire childhood through high school in multiple sports. This sparked my interest in personal training which evolved into Advanced Strength & Conditioning paired with nutrition coaching. Adding in M.A.T. to what I can offer my clients has really helped me optimize how each person can improve.
I have been lucky enough to mentor under many amazing coaches like Loren Landow, who is now the head Strength & Conditioning coach for the Denver Broncos NFL team. While I have many years of experience, I still like to keep myself in the mindset of a student, open to learn anything I can that will help me provide a better service to my clients.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all types of clients from high school aged athletes to amazing human beings in their 70's. Coming from a sports performance background has given me the ability to do more than just improve performance on the field. I have had to opportunity to help clients come back from devastating injuries and just learn to function better in their daily lives. If I can help someone live a better quality of life or improve their performance and safety on the field, then I'm interested.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
There are many personal trainers and coaches out there, with many certifications. I will tell you from personal experience, that most certifications are weekend courses that have very little carry over to practical application. Certifications are many times just a piece of paper in a frame. When meeting with a potential coach/trainer, look for someone who wants to focus on you and your needs, not fitting their specific program. Every person is unique and deserves the respect to be treated with attention to what they need.
