Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Provide a relaxed atmosphere...it's not a tryout.
Evaluate your strengths and weaknesses and work on your overall game.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Aside from the on-field experience we have in teaching / coaching, we are always reading about new appraoches to teaching players of different ages. We don't teach each player the same...everyone learns differently, so your experience here will be tailored to you.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
For 2018, a half-hour lesson is $40 and an hour lesson is $60. We also offer 2 or 3 player sessions ($45 and $75 to make it more affordable per player.
How did you get started teaching?
Started coaching young players as a means of passing what I had learned as a player onto the next group of players, including my sons.
What types of students have you worked with?
We have worked with players taht are just getting intereste in baseball as well as players that are high end college recruits. The greatnews is that every player loves their experience and only wants to get better.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Building the confidence in an 8 year old player that had below average skills and developed his skills to allow him to play through age 12.
We have also done a camp for young players in the Big Brothers organization and peak their interest in baseball. Seeing the looks on their faces when they fielded and threw the ball or hit a baseball hard (some for the first time) was fulfilling for our entire team.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find someone that will make the session about you and help you get the most out of yourself!
Don't be afraid to ask questions of your instructor or coach. This helps both you and the coach get better...a WIN-WIN situation and building block to SUCCESS.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Am I ready to look at what I need to work on to get better (set a goal).
Put my ego to the side and commit myself to putting in the work to achieve the goal.
