Effective workouts based on science, not some magazine or what someone saw on YouTube. I believe that the average person (one not competing in 'shows' to look a certain way) benefit from training their whole body each session versus the traditional 'split routine' where athletes work chest and tris one day, back and bis another, and then have a 'leg day' which leaves them so sore they can barely walk the next day. This makes little sense to me. First of all, we should be using movements to train our bodies because that's what we should be trying to imrove -- the way we MOVE. Therefore, we squat, deadlift, bench press with weights which replicate real world, functional movements which improve our bodies. We don't use leg presses or leg extensions or really any machines. Legs are the biggest muscles in the body. Why on earth would we only train then once a week???
I can explain to my clients the exact reasons that I ask then to perform every exercise. I don't use 'filler' exercises when there is dead time. I have clients do active stretching to compliment the movement they are currently doing. For example, stretch hip flexors while deadlifting or stretching the chest while strengthening the back.
An average sessions looks like this:
5-10 minutes of flexibility/mobility work
10-15 strength train a specific movement (some form of bench press, squat or deadlift
20-25 minutes of circuit training
5-15 mins of HITT or interval cardio work
