Custom Fit
About
Welcome to Custom Fit. We are a personal training and nutrition studio located in San Francisco. Our studio has a primary focus on core strength, functional fitness, and real-food eating advice. Each program design is unique, but all are rooted in science. We have a team of professional, experienced trainers (both male and female) as well as in-house nutritionists and a dietitian to help you achieve your goals. We specialize in: - Weight loss - Core strength & postural improvement - Lean muscle gain - Macronutrient & nutritional advice - Sport-specific or activity-specific training - Injury prevention The way our studio works is that we offer one personal training session + one consult with our dietitian for $99. After filling out our intake form we’ll pair you with a trainer that fits with your goals, preferences, etc.. The first training session we’ll further discuss your health, goals, injuries, etc., as well as conduct several movement tests to help determine any muscle imbalances. This will lead into a light workout to also help determine any strengths and weaknesses. Our Dietitan will also reach out to schedule. Should you decide to continue after those two intro sessions, we'll take biometric measurements, help track your macronutrient levels, provide you with awesome recipes (and smoothies) and take home workouts to maximize your ability to eat healthy and consistently exercise. Coming to the studio to workout is the easy part; going home and continuing to focus on your diet is the hard part. It is our goal to make it as easy as possible for you to be healthy.
The best part about the work that I do is that I'm literally helping people every single day. It's great to help people do things they've never done or thought they could do. People come on their own time, and leave feeling great. Fitness is my lifes' work as well as every trainer that works here and we hope to inspire you to live the healthiest life you can.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
For new clients interested in personal training it's very important we can accurately deduce any injuries, limitations, goals, nutrition, etc. This is why we offer a two-part intro offer of two sessions. The first session let's us talk through your goals, injuries, nutrition or anything else. This also give us a chance to do several movements to help determine some common imbalances that some people have. However, we can only find out so much about your body from doing simple movement tests, which is part of the reason why we do a second session. The second session will be a real workout that not only gives you a chance to experience the facility and training style, but also give us a chance to get a second opinion and see how you move. You might have a strong left oblique than right oblique, which we'll never know about unless we see you move. For us, the goal of these two sessions is to get you to the best starting place possible so we can make sure you're balanced and ready to build off a solid foundation. Included in all of this is a 30 minute meeting with our Dietitian, which we will schedule prior to meeting.

How did you get started teaching?
I had been coaching swimming and water polo for a long time and always enjoyed helping people and coaching. I have also been lift weights since I was a teenager so about six years ago I decided to further educate myself on the profession, get certified, and get experienced. About three months after beginning my first training job, I knew this was the job for me. Fast forward six years, and now I'm living my dream of being a small business owner in one of the greatest cities in the world.
What types of students have you worked with?
We have experience working with a wide variety of clients: men, women, old, young, injured, healthy, and everything in between. About 1/4 of our clients are over 55 and we have several in their mid-80s. We try to keep the studio as professional and as welcoming as possible so we can service 25yr old athletes looking to bulk up as well as 75yr old clients looking to improve their balance. One of the best parts of training is working with a diverse group of people because it keeps us trainers engaged. Having variety in our clients means we need to stay on top of all relevant training methodologies, because to be completely honest, the most difficult clients to train are one who are limited in their capabilities.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A recent project I'm proud of is helping a 54 year old woman lose about 80lbs of the course of 14 months. She came to us at 280lbs and she got down to 209. We were able to dial in her nutrition/macronutrients and provide her workouts to do on her own. She exercised consistently every week and ate according to the plan we set out for her and saw tremendous results, which we measured a variety of ways as she progressed. She was able get out of bed easier, go up and down stairs easier, and increase her confidence. She had not been at this weight in over 20 years.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Ask knowledgeable questions, compare styles, and find someone who has empirical evidence of getting results. Our goal at Custom Fit is to create reasonable and sustainable habits that will lead to awesome results. We will tell you what to do and how to do it, but you're the one doing the work. In addition to seeing great results and meeting your goals, we're also keenly focused on creating intrinsic value. We want you to not only see results, but we also want you to enjoy the studio, the training, and everything else.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
From a client perspective, I think it's important to think about your goals (physical, mental, and otherwise), you're level of dedication to achieving those goals, and what methods work best for you in getting there. I think it's important that you find a space that is welcoming and inviting...a place where you want to be. It's also important to know what type of people you work well with so you can go into a one-on-one service like personal training armed with the most information possible because this is going to allow you to get started from the best place possible.
